Service — Prescriptions

Your eyes,
taken seriously.

Every prescription pair is checked by a qualified dispensing optician before the lenses are cut, and again before it ships. Here is everything you need to order with confidence.

How to read your prescription

OD / OSLatin shorthand your optician uses. OD (oculus dexter) is your right eye. OS (oculus sinister) is your left. Some UK prescriptions simply say R and L — same thing.
SPHSphere — the main lens power, in dioptres. Minus for short-sight, plus for long-sight. e.g. −1.75. We dispense from −8.00 to +6.00.
CYLCylinder — correction for astigmatism. Often blank; that's normal. e.g. −0.50. We dispense to ±4.00.
AXISThe orientation of your astigmatism correction, 1–180 degrees. Always present if CYL is. e.g. 180
ADDReading addition, for bifocal or varifocal corrections. e.g. +2.00. We glaze single vision, bifocal and varifocal — choose your vision type in the atelier.
PDPupillary distance — the distance between your pupils in millimetres, written as one number (63) or as right/left halves (31.5 / 31.5). If your prescription omits it, ask your optician, or we'll guide you through measuring it from a photograph.

Before dispatch

Questions, answered

Can I have my prescription in sunglasses?

Yes — that's the point of the house. Prescription Sun combines your exact correction with any tint in the atelier, solid, graduated or polarised. Your correction is surfaced first, the colour applied after, so the tint never compromises the optics.

My prescription has an ADD value. Can you make varifocals?

Yes. We glaze single vision, bifocal and digitally-surfaced varifocal lenses — and every one of them takes any tint, mirror, flash or photochromic finish in the atelier. Enter your ADD with your prescription and choose Varifocal or Bifocal at the lens step.

I don't know my PD. What do I do?

Ask the practice that tested you — it's part of your record. If that's awkward, order anyway: we'll send you a simple guide to measuring it from a photograph, verified by our optician against your uploaded prescription.

How old can my prescription be?

Under two years, in line with UK dispensing practice. If yours has lapsed, book a sight test first — your eyes are worth the hour.

What if the prescription I typed doesn't match my upload?

The upload wins. Our optician dispenses from the written prescription and will flag any mismatch with you before cutting.

Wrong, somehow, on arrival?

If your lenses don't feel right, contact us within 30 days. We'll re-check the dispense against your prescription and remake at no cost if we've erred.
